"2004-04-15 - Joe Luck of Bluesky
Joe Luck, son of German immigrant parents Paul and Paula Luck, was born on May 31, 1937 in Bluesky. Joe attended school in Bluesky and Friedenstal. He grew up on a farm and spent several years working for “Macleods’ Hardware”, This provided a good background for opening his own business, “Luck’s Hardware”, in Fairview. He was well-known in the area and his former customers still speak highly of the personal service he provided to them. He sold his business after several years and joined Tuffy Calvert in the plumbing business moving on to Peace River Plumbing after leaving Fairview. He went on to serve as a Government Safety Inspector in the Peace River area. Plumbing remained a part of his life although he became proficient at and worked in multiple trades including carpentry. He was a well-known local handyman. Joe also specialized in providing barbecuing services for many functions throughout the area. He enjoyed feeding large groups of people and had this task organized into a fine science. Joe was active politically. He assisted many local politicians with their campaigns and gave them his wholehearted support. He also fulfilled his civic duties by serving as a counselor for his ward. Joe was an avid collector of antiques and collectibles. You could find Joe at many sales across the Peace River Country poking into various nooks and crannies to find some favorite treasures. His love of country life and nature was exemplified by the home that he built among a stand of cozy spruce. He enjoyed his garden and various other outdoor activities. His creativity resulted in many interesting landscape features around his home. Joe was known as a kind and helpful neighbor who was willing to go the extra mile for someone in need. He enjoyed being with people and as most of you know, enjoyed debating and in-depth discussions on many topics. He was a severe diabetic throughout much of his adult life. He struggled with the disease and eventually it wrecked havoc with his health. Joe passed away suddenly on April 10th, at the age of 66 years. He will be missed by friends and family. Joe is survived by his children, Laura, Sandra and husband Mark, Robert and wife Janice, Paul and wife Laura and grandchildren.
