"DOLL, Katherina (Katie) Genefva - Katie Doll, longtime resident of Fairview, AB passed away on November 5, 2017 in Fairview at the age of 102 years. Katie was born on June 20, 1915 in Regina, SK to Frank and Elizabeth Heck. Katie spent her youth on a farm South of Bluesky and attended a country school at Little Burnt. As she was growing up she learned how to be a pioneer woman and worked diligently alongside her mother learning home making skills. Katie married Martin Doll in 1935 at St. Boniface Church in Friedenstal and the couple settled on a homestead near North Star, AB. Here they started their life together raising five children. In 1963, Martin passed away suddenly suffering a heart attack. Katie moved to Fairview in 1973 and started custodial work at the CIBC bank and after that went on to work at the Fairview Hospital in housekeeping. In 1981 Katie retired and moved to the Garrison Manor the day it opened. During her retirement years she enjoyed bowling, crocheting afghans, travelling, shopping and having coffee with her friends. She took pride in her houseplants and placed many ribbons at the flower show held at the Garrison Manor. She also enjoyed babysitting for many families in the community. When family visited Katie, her candy bowl was always full and always seemed to have little gifts tucked away in her closet to give to the children. Katie lived at the Garrison Manor for 26 years and in 2008 moved to the Fairview Harvest Lodge. In 2016 she moved into the Fairview Long Term Care facility. Katie was predeceased by her husband Martin Doll of 28 years. Brothers Wendelin, Philip, Fred and Joe. Sisters Margaret, Mary and Rose. Brothers-in-law Adolph Krapp and Nick Pohr. Sisters-in-law Monica Heck, Ida Heck, and Pauline Heck. Daughter-in-law Dalbir Doll and grandchildren Emanuel Doll, Jr. and Cathy Dechant. Katie is survived by her children Wendelin (Myrna), Elizabeth (Edward), Emanuel (Lynda), Kenneth, Martin (Debi) and sister-in-law Genevieve Heck. She was the loving grandmother to 20 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren. Funeral services for the late Katie Doll were held on November 13, 2017 at the St. Thomas More Church with Father Maurice Marion officiating. Interment followed at the Friedenstal Cemetery. Donations may be given to the Happy Harvesters as expressions of sympathy."
