Louise Cecile Wild

1Fairview Post, Newspaper of Fairview, Alberta, Canada.
"WILD, Mary Gertrude - 1924 - 2018 Born December 19th, 1924, Mary Gertrude Wild (93) died as she had lived, gently and peacefully, on Saturday, February 24th, 2018 at the QE II Hospital in Grande Prairie. She was the first born of eight children to the family of Mathias and Frances (Zinselmeyer) Kramer who lived near Fairview, in the Friedenstahl area where many German immigrants settled in the early 1900’s. Mary’s first language was German. A teacher by profession, Mary’s career began in the early 1940’s in a one-room schoolhouse in Hanna, AB. By the mid-1940’s she transferred to the Peace River School Division to teach Grade One in Berwyn. It was there that she met her husband of fifty years, John Wild. They married in 1949 and were blessed with six children. Mary returned to full time teaching in 1958. By the late 60’s she had upgraded her skills and became the music teacher for elementary grades, teaching concurrently in Berwyn, Brownvale and Grimshaw until the early 70’s. John was a grain farmer in this Peace area, with also a mixed farm on the home site. Having been raised on a farm, Mary contributed as the gardener. They taught their children these skills while providing the best of ‘the Peace’ for their family’s nourishment. John and Mary moved to Grande Prairie in 1973 and sold their farm a few years later. Throughout her life, Mary’s family and her faith and parish community were very important to her, as was her German-Canadian ancestry and her extended family in Canada, the US and Germany. She was a great communicator and organizer of special events – from family outings and reunions, to trips to Europe and other destinations, from the annual Octoberfest in Grande Prairie to revitalizing the Parkinson’s Support Group. She also enjoyed curling, needle crafts, Scrabble and other games. She loved to meditate, read and pray. For fifteen years, Mary made significant contributions as School Board Trustee for the GPCSD, establishing the first French-immersion School, École St. Gerard, and helping name Kateri Mission School. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for 70 years and helped with local charities like the Food Bank, Salvation Army and Catholic Social Services. Her legacy as teacher lives on to the third generation. The family are deeply grateful to the staff and Home Care workers of Wild Rose Manor for their exceptional care of Mary, and to Dr. Pope and the nurses that cared for her at QEII. Mary is survived by her children: Louise (Leo) Dechant, Maurice (Lynda), Douglas (Arlene), Charles (Jackie), Maureen (Sister of Charity), John, and her informally adopted nephew, Larry Kelly; her beloved grandchildren, Curtis (Amy) Dechant, Corie Dechant, Kenton (Bernadette) Dechant, Kirby (Silvi) Dechant, Perry (Shilo) Wild, Leslie (Jay) Fraser, Clinton (Amber) Wild, Jenny (Rocky) McAusland, Matthew (Whitney) Wild, Jolaina (Myles) Hahn, Mandy (Darryl) Wild-Thibault, Jared Wild, Josh (Chelsea) Wild, Brandon Wild and Eric Wild; her cherished twenty-five great grandchildren; her sister, Matilda Vant Erve and Tony (Judy) Kramer; her sisters-in-law, Teresa Kramer, Marie Kramer, Cecile Kramer, Marta Kramer, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband John Wild and five brothers, Leo, Ben, Alphonse, Bert and John; her sisters-in-law, Viola Kelly and Christine Wharton; her brothers-in-law, Edward and Otto Wild, Gerald Kelly, Thomas Wharton, and Theodore Vant Erve. Prayers were held for Mary on Wednesday, February 28th, 2018 at 7pm at Bear Creek Funeral Home (new location at 11802 99 Avenue Grande Prairie, just west of Costco and behind Winners). Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 11am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (10404 102 Street Grande Prairie) followed by a luncheon in the church hall. Interment in the City of Grande Prairie Cemetery took place at 2pm (11101 84th Avenue). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary’s name to the Food Bank, Catholic Social Services (www.cssalberta.ca) or Covenant House, Vancouver (www.covenanthouse.org). Care entrusted to Bear Creek Funeral Home 780-830-7742."

Louise Dechant Obituary
Louise passed peacefully among family at Orchard Haven Care Home in Keremeos BC.

Louise was the first child to mixed farmer John Wild & schoolteacher Mary (Kramer) Wild of Berwyn AB. Young Louise grew up among siblings, cousins, friends, pets, crops, flocks and small herds. She left to finish high school at STM in Fairview AB and then study Education at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Louise met & fell in love with Leo Dechant, and they married in December 1969. They established a home in Fairview, where Louise supported Leo in the Dechant Electric business venture, raised their family and gardens & where Louise taught two generations of young children at STM School. During this period, Louise also studied and taught theology, upgraded her university to Masters of Education, mentored many exchange students, and could be found volunteering at CWL activities, in musical liturgy at STM church, and delivering meals to the elderly. Leo & Louise retired to Keremeos BC and Tucson AZ to continue to enjoy the fruit of the earth and warmer adventures. In retirement, Louise’s volunteering continued to form a large part of her identity; beautifying the town with the Keremeos Garden Club, creating an inviting space at the Keremeos Welcome Center, and nourishing the elderly through Meals-On-Wheels.

Louise loved summer blooms & garden produce, cheerful songs & strumming her guitar, inspiring children toward life-long discovery, camping & walking among nature, family picnics at the beach, reading all genres of literature, simple foods but also rich ethnic cuisines, stimulating conversation, lighting candles & celebrating loved ones. Louise found meaning within Faith, purpose out of Contemplation & joy from her Service.

Louise is survived by her loving husband Leo Dechant of 53 years. Children & Families: Curtis & Amy (Ally, Johnny), Corie (Jordon, Nate), Kenton & Bernadette (Simon, Jayda), Kirby & Silvi (Zoey, Rocco, Alana). "• Peace Country pioneer, long time resident of Fairview, Frances Rombs, passed away peacefully at the Fairview Long Term Care, October 19, 2004 at the age of 92 years (in a month's time she would have been 93 years old.) Frances was born November 19, 1911 in Rastadt, Russia to German Parents Paul and Theresia Ressler. She celebrated her first birthday coming across the Atlantic Ocean on the boat. She was the oldest of 12 children, therefore she helped care for her younger siblings. Most of her schooling took place in Beiseker, Alberta. She came to the Peace country with her parents in 1928. As a young girl she worked as a hired girl for various people in the Peace country. She married Frank Rombs, November 29, 1930 in the Berwyn Catholic Church. They had seven children and were married 57 years. Frances' greatest love was her family and she always had a kind word for everyone. she loved to sew, knit, crochet and garden. She somehow managed to fit things in with her busy life on the farm. She also liked to read, but never really took time for much of that. Another great love was music. She always had a good selection of old time music or otherwise. She was also he world's best cook and fed anyone who came by regardless of the time of day. Mother Rombs had an excellent memory for dates, years and names and up to several months ago she could still recite a poem that she learned in grade three called September which she often repeated at harvest time. She was a faithful member of the Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the CWL. Frances was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Theresia Ressler, her husband Frank in 1987, her son Henry in 2003, a granddaughter Patricia Rombs, grandson Bruce Andreasen and grandson Ryley Rombs, sisters Angela and Rose, brothers Felix, Ralph, Tony, Andrew and Willie Ressler. She is survived by her six children, William (Beattie), Joe (Mary), Martin, daughter-in-law Rose, Lawrence (Shirley), Theresia (Peter), and Frankie (Mary) all of Fairview, her sister Mary Schroh, sister-in-law Mary Ressler, brothers Sid (Gwen), Adam (Emily), and Joe (Evelyn) and brother-in-law Matt Chrenek. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren as well as by many nieces nephews and a host of friends. Prayer service was held October 22 at 7:30 pm and the funeral service was held October 23 at 10:00 am both from St. Thomas More Church with Father Joe Singarajah OMI officiating. Music was provided by the St. Thomas More Music Ministry and organist was Marie Meashaw. Active pallbearers were Grandma Rombs' granddaughters. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the local Fairview Long Term Care. On behalf of the family we wish to express our gratitude and thanks to the staff of the Fairview Long Term Care for their kindness and loving care to our mother while she made her home there for almost 4 1/2 years."
