"SHERRIE'S OBITUARY
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sherrie (Cotterhill) Wagner, a beloved wife, devoted mother of two boys, cherished sister, daughter, daughter-in-law, and friend. Sherrie died peacefully with family and friends by her side in Peace River on November 16, 2023 at the age of 54.

Sherrie (Cotterhill) Wagner was born at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary, Alberta on January 9, 1969 to Edwin and Nina Cotterhill and big sister Shawna. Growing up in Calgary, Sherrie's family was her foundation, and she carried their love with her throughout her life and into the relationships she had with others.

After finishing high school and her post-secondary studies, Sherrie held jobs in Calgary in the Oil and Gas Industry at Flint Oil prior to meeting and then marrying the love of her life Robert Wagner in 1996.

Sherrie and Rob moved to the Peace Country, firstly Fairview where Sherrie continued her career at Fairview College. After moving to Peace River Sherrie worked aside Rob as they started their own insurance brokerage before moving into other positions at Scotia Bank, KIX 106 radio station, and most recently T.A.Norris School (Peace River School Division). Sherrie was ambitious and hard-working, and made friends with her colleagues easily; many of those colleagues remained lifetime friends long after she left workplaces.

As a wife, Sherrie exemplified the meaning of partnership. Her love for her husband Rob has been unwavering, and the bond that they shared is a testament to that strength and of their commitment. In the face of challenges, they’ve stood together, supporting each other with a love that only deepened over the years.

Sherrie and Rob had an abundance of friends in Fairview and then also in Peace River which became their forever home. Their years together have been filled with a multitude of social gatherings, sledding, camping, quadding, card playing, visiting, boating, and more.

In 1997 and 2001 respectively, Sherrie took on her most cherished role of being a Mom to their two boys, Tanner and Dillon. Sherrie was an ever-present cheerleader and moral compass to them. She showed up - for sports, to volunteer, to help at the school, to drive kids around to parties and activities.

The hockey arena became a second home to the Wagner family and Sherrie took to it like a duck does to water. Cheering her boys at their games, running the clock and volunteering in the food booth - Sherrie was up for it all. Their Peace River Minor Hockey friends soon became their hockey family which is a testament to the strength of relationships that Sherrie always strived to have.

Sherrie was also a second Mom to so many of the friends of her boys. If they needed a place to crash for the night, a ride home or to and from hockey, a shoulder to lean on, a hug or a visit, Sherrie had it covered. She carried that philosophy with her wherever she went and with whomever’s path that she crossed. She was just that kind of person.

Sherrie was so incredibly strong and brave, never bitter, matter-of-factly loyal to her friends, and deeply devoted to her family. Sherrie strongly stood up for her beliefs while being considerate, gracious, and accepting of others. She called a spade a spade and didn’t shy away from saying what she thought with kindness.

These last few years have been some of the most challenging. Sherrie was diagnosed with cancer and not given a favourable prognosis. But she defiantly said ‘no’, willing herself another near 6 years of birthdays, holidays, and indelible life moments with her family and friends. She LIVED. She remained active, travelled to Hawaii and Mexico with dear friends, camped, cheered her boys at hockey and in their careers, and even returned to work. Those who knew Sherrie were lucky to see what courage and strength are all about. She was a fighter.

Never bitter, Sherrie could often be heard saying one or all of these three statements: “It is what it is”; “It will be what it will be.”; and “It’s all good.” She meant the words she spoke and reminded us to walk her talk every chance that she was given.

Sherrie was predeceased by her mother Nina (Ohrn) Cotterhill, her half sister Leslie Heidecker, Father-in-law Cliff Wagner; and is survived by her loving husband, Robert Wagner of 27 years; her two boys Tanner Wagner and Dillon Wagner who were the light of her life; her Dad Edwin Cotterhill; her sister Shawna and brother-in-law Martin Brown; her Mother-in-Law Chris (Heck) Wagner; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Cliff & Lauri Wagner; nephews Bryton Wagner, Justin and Brandon Brown; and a countless number of extended family and friends.

Sherrie was loved and admired by all who she met in her life and she will be missed more than words can express. The family extends deep appreciation and gratitude to all of the staff at the Peace River Hospital and to the many other medical professionals who worked tirelessly to support their family. A special thanks to Dr. Alex and Leigh-Anne Louw, to Dr. Richard Beekmann, as well as to all of the nursing staff.

The Wagner family also wishes to thank the many family and friends who have expressed their support in both thought and deed.

Funeral services will be held November 22, 2023 @ 11 am at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church 10405- 99st in Peace River, Alberta. Reception to follow at 1 pm at the Nova 10010 - 74 Street in Peace River, Alberta.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Sherrie Wagner’s name to the Peace Palliative Care Society: https://peacepalliativecaresociety.ca/."
