"• Rupert William Friedel Rupert William Friedel, long time resident of Fairview, AB, passed away on October 6, 2004 at his home, at the age of 77 years. Rupert was born February 6, 1927 at Friedenstal, AB and lived his whole life in this community, that he so loved. Rupert grew up on the family farm at Friedenstal, and as a young man, planned to be the farmer in the family. However, when his brother, Carl, came home at the end of W.W.II, Rupert's father told him that he had found Rupert a job in town with W.P. Loggie and that Rupert was to start Monday at 8:00 a m and not to be late. So started Rupert's life in retail. Rupert worked for Loggie's General Store for several years before he bought the boys' and men's' wear department and in 1953 opened Friedel's Mens' Wear. Rupert married and had two sons, Michael and Leon. Rupert was a strong supporter of all things Fairview and dedicated his time and energy to many local groups, activities, and was an avid sports fan. The Edmonton Eskimos were his football team of choice, and Rupert managed to see their games whenever he could. He loved to hunt and fish and play card. Many an afternoon, there was a hand of crib going on the back room of the store. Rupert was a car buff. His prized possession was his 1964 Oldsmobile, which he bought new and kept in excellent shape all these 40 years. Rupert's greatest sense of pride came from having time with his grandchildren. Rupert leaves to cherish his memory; sons Michael (Monique), Riverview, NB, son Leon (Patricia), grandchildren Danielle and Jared; step-granddaughters Susie and Melissa; Anne Fredelle, mother of his sons, Bea Carignan, long time friend and dedicated caregiver; brothers Pete (Allie), Calgary, AB, Carl (Stella), Westbank, BC, Roger (Fran), White Rock, BC, sisters, Ann Campbell, Fairview, Barbara Dukart, Portland, Oregon and numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Rupert was predeceased by his father Martin, mother Elizabeth, brothers Pedro, Joe and Alvin and sisters Rose, Pauline, Effie and Theresa. Prayer service was held October 8, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. and the funeral service was held October 9, 2004 at 10:00 a.m., both from the St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church with Father Joe Singarajah OMI officiating. Music was provided by soloist Marnie Stark, the choir of St. Thomas More Music Ministry and Orma Jean Shmyruk and organist Marie Meashaw. Honorary pallbearers were all family and friends who shared in Rupert's life. Active pallbearers were John Campbell, John Luck, Peter Zaleschuk, Al Thomas, Fred Robins and Vic Chelich. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the local Fairview Palliative Care Unit, Box 552 Fairview, Ab T0H 1L0 or the charity of donor's choice. On behalf of the family, we wish to express out gratitude for your many acts of kindness evidenced in thought and deed as well as your attendance at the funeral service."

"Tony Doll , of Grande Prairie
Date of Death: September 26th, 1998
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Tony Doll at the Fairview Health Complex on September 26, 1998, just short of his 80th birthday. Tony was born in Fairview, Alta., on November 17, 1918.
He is survived by his wife, Frances of 50 years; nine children: James (Dorothy), Charles (Eunice), Mary Hansen (Marvin), Marilyn Hawryluk (John), Bernice LaValley (Grant), Bill (Janet), Ben (Sherry), Elaine Cissell (Lonnie), David (Maureen) and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kim, Corry, Karen, Kara, Niki, Clayton, Cindy, Cody, Shawndel, T.J., Laura, Trevor, Dusty, Amanda, Liza, Katie, Darren, Carson, Chase, Jodie, Amber, Colten, Karter, Wyatt and Telsa.
Tony served in the Second World War and remained an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 244. Upon returning from service, Tony took up farming in the Friedenstal district and in 1947 married Frances Heck. Over the next 15 years Tony and Frances were blessed with nine children.
In 1959 Tony and Frances moved to Grande Prairie where Tony continued to farm and later worked at the Canfor plywood plant as a heavy duty mechanic and in 1983 he retired but continued to guide and support his children and grandchildren.
Tony was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren influencing them in so many ways. He was a kind and honest man, and he had a zest for life. He enjoyed playing his fiddle and received several fiddling trophies. He enjoyed the many trips he took with the family and friends, particularly his trip to the Indianapolis 500. He took up golfing and played many enjoyable games with friends and he always looked forward to the annual summer golf tournament that brought family and friends together. He never missed a chance to take his grandsons to demolition derbies and was proud to be on hand when his grandson won the Novice Bareback Championship at the Calgary Stampede in 1997. He will be sadly missed.
Tony is predeceased by a granddaughter, Daylene Doll and two brothers, George and Willie.
Prayer services will be held on Thursday, October 1, 1998 at 7:45 p.m. at Oliver's Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel, 10005-107 Avenue, Grande Prairie.
Funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 2, 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Mick Fleming C.Ss.R. celebrant. Interment in the Glen Leslie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Arthritis Society."
