"• Lloyd George Obrigewitch, long time resident of Fairview, Alberta passed away suddenly, March 20, 2006, in his home, at the age of 57. Lloyd was born July 9, 1948 in the Fairview Hospital. He was the youngest child of Jack and Christina Obrigewitch and the only one in the family born in the Peace country. The rest of the siblings were born in Fox Valley and Medicine Hat. Lloyd grew up on the home place south of Bluesky, going to school there and then to Fairview High. He left high school to work on the farm with his dad and started his first business, of water and gravel hauling, when he was 17 years old. Lloyd met his wife Judy in 1969 at a baseball game in Bluesky. It seems it was love at first base. They married on July 9, 1970 and moved to the homestead, where they started their family of Shelley, Jake, Angie. In 1977 they moved to Golden Meadow where Trevor came along. Lloyd was a farmer and rancher during his life, farming 3,000 acres and raising a large herd of cattle, with Judy by his side. He was a member of the Waterhole Rodeo (instrumental in bringing Pro Rodeo to Fairview) for a number of years, the Whitelaw Curling Club and was a part of senior men's hockey. He loved curling, hunting and fishing. Lloyd was predeceased by his mother Christina and father Jacob; brother-in-law Rick Gelech and niece Corrina Gerk, all of Fairview. Lloyd will be greatly missed by his wife of 35 years, Judy; his children: Shelley (Rory), Jake (Stacey), Angie and Trevor (Robyn); grandchildren: Layne, Jayden, Dalen, Jordy, Taylor and Jayce; sisters Rose (Alvin) Dei, Anne (Dennis) Young; brothers: Peter (Gail), Eugene and Ted (Jean); as well as many nieces, nephews and all the people he brought and accepted into the family over the years. Lloyd was a big man with a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back if needed. He was a rock of strength that everyone depended on. Funeral services were held March 28, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. from the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with Father Joe officiating. Interment followed at the Friedenstal Cemetery. Music was provided by organist Marie Meashaw along with Louise Dart, Tony and Herman Luck, Bev Bjorklund, Tracy Jordon and Wanda Doherty. Honourary pallbearers were Lloyd's grandchildren and longtime friends. Active pallbearers were Jake and Trevor Obrigewitch, Rory MacDonald, Brandon Gerk, Rob Raven, Troy Venning, Owen Helgesen and Gene Gelech."
