"• Lois Jensen resident of Bear Canyon, AB and Fairview, AB, passed away May 26, 2005 in Fairview Hospital. Lois came to the homestead at Bear Canyon from the Hussar/Bassano area in the May of 1961, moving to Fairview in October of 2002. She was very fond of her yard at Bear Canyon, where she worked many long hours and enjoyed it very much. She was sad when she could not look after it right anymore. She was a dedicated member of the Bear Canyon Ladies Club, which she joined soon after settling in at Bear Canyon. She also did some volunteer work at the Bear Canyon School. She did enumerations, census taking and was returning officer for several elections over the years. Lois was a low profile person so she didnt speak of these kinds of things very often. In 1967 she began to write a Bear Canyon news column for Hec MacLean of the Fairview Post as a Centennial project. She did this until 2001. Lois received many comments about her column, many more good than not. The good ones she smiled about, the others she said, Ill just do better, if I can. She has been asked many times. Are you the Lois that writes for the Post? We always read your news. She had a reader in Australia, who sent a message via Ian MacDonald that he liked to read her Bear Canyon news. So from time to time she would mention his name and say Hi to him. In May 2000 Lois was diagnosed as having colon cancer and said, Ill do what I have to do to live. I want to see my grandchildren grow. She spent many hours sick from the treatments. In spite of this she was able to look after herself until five months ago, when she went the last time to hospital. We acquired some pets as we retired from farming to have about the yard so the grand kids called our home place Grandmas Funny Farm. On Grandmas Funny Farm theres some cows with minds of their own. Theres Jack, hes a donkey and BJ who is a boy Alpaca, And big woolly Spot, who belongs to Nicky and Grandpa. Hes sheep, of course, and not to forget AJ; hes a llama and so far the pride of the group. At times there are foxes and babies in the barn And yes, deer, year after year. Many, many birds she fed black sunflower seeds. Red and yellow Grosbeaks and Chick-a-dee-dee-dees. Lois and Jim were married at Central United Church in Calgary on January 15, 1955. Our fiftieth was celebrated at the Fairview Hospital with all the family except Chelsa with us. Lois was very pleased with the day, regardless of the circumstances. Lois is survived by husband Jim, son Dale (Karen) of Bear Canyon and grandsons Ryan of Grande Prairie and Scott, of Grimshaw, daughter Joan (Gary) and granddaughters Robin ad Kara of Hines Creek, son Ronald (Lorna) of Bear Canyon, grandchildren Chelsa of Calgary, Nicole of Fairview and Justin of Bear Canyon, son Clayton and grandchildren Megan and Quintin of Grande Prairie, daughter Vicky (Carlam) of Hines Creek, sister Gale (Bob) Telford, Strathmore, AB, sister-in-law Ruth Parker of Fairview. Lois was predeceased by her mother Ala Mark, Calgary, father Roy Parker, Prince George, BC and brother Delon (Don) Parker of Fairview."
